Tishk International University and Libya Open University Sign Strategic Memorandum of Understanding to Strengthen Academic Cooperation
As part of Tishk International University’s strategic vision to expand its international partnerships and promote academic excellence across the region, Prof. Dr. Sultan T. Abu-Orabi, President of Tishk International University, paid an official visit to Libya Open University in Tripoli, Libya, following an official invitation from Prof. Dr. Abulqasem Shalouf, President of Libya Open University.
Prof. Dr. Sultan T. Abu-Orabi, who also serves as the Former Secretary General of the Association of Arab Universities and President of the Arab International Foundation for Educational Development, was warmly received by Prof. Dr. Abulqasem Shalouf and senior officials of Libya Open University. The visit reflected the mutual commitment of both institutions to fostering academic collaboration and strengthening higher education partnerships within the Arab region.
The official program included a comprehensive meeting between the leadership of both universities, during which participants explored opportunities for cooperation in academic, scientific, and research fields. The discussions focused on developing sustainable partnerships that contribute to educational innovation, knowledge exchange, and institutional development.
As part of the visit, Prof. Dr. Sultan T. Abu-Orabi toured the university campus and visited its various scientific departments, where he was introduced to the University’s academic programs, educational facilities, and technological capabilities.
Libya Open University, headquartered in Tripoli, is one of the country’s leading higher education institutions, operating through a network of 36 branches across Libya. The University is recognized for its pioneering role in technical education and its strong emphasis on virtual and distance learning, providing flexible educational opportunities to students throughout the country.
A major highlight of the visit was the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Tishk International University and Libya Open University. The agreement establishes a comprehensive framework for future collaboration in areas including academic exchange, joint scientific research, faculty development, student mobility, quality assurance, and the implementation of collaborative educational initiatives that benefit both institutions.
During the meeting, the two sides also discussed preparations for an upcoming Joint International Scientific Conference on Artificial Intelligence, scheduled to be held in November 2026. The conference will be organized through a collaborative partnership between Tishk International University, Libya Open University, Sirte University, and the Arab International Foundation for Educational Development. The event is expected to bring together distinguished academics, researchers, and experts to explore emerging developments, research opportunities, and innovative applications of artificial intelligence in higher education and various scientific disciplines.
Speaking during the meeting, Prof. Dr. Sultan T. Abu-Orabi reaffirmed Tishk International University’s commitment to building meaningful regional and international partnerships that enhance academic quality, encourage collaborative research, and support sustainable educational development. He emphasized that strategic cooperation among universities serves as a cornerstone for addressing contemporary educational challenges and preparing future generations through innovation and shared expertise.
At the conclusion of the visit, both institutions reaffirmed their commitment to implementing the Memorandum of Understanding through practical joint initiatives and expanding cooperation in ways that contribute to the advancement of higher education, scientific research, and innovation throughout the region.
